Painstaking Technology Goes Into A Medical Grade Air Cleaner

Order the Only Clinically Proven, Medical Grade Air Cleaner

10’ x 10’ x 8’ > 18.75 ACH @ 250 CFM

For an effective air cleaning solution, you need the best air cleaning technology coupled with a powerful fan to filter the air in your room. CFM tells us how many cubic feet of air a unit can move in one minute. With the dimensions of your room we can determine the ACH (air changes per hour per hour) our air cleaner will deliver. (learn more below)

Bio-aerosols are a big challenge, particularly for all dental offices, impact patient satisfaction, health and comfort. The Austin Air true medical grade air cleaners – with HEPA and activated carbon filtering – provide the best technology for removing aerosols that carry virus particles, such as COVID-19, other pathogens, allergens and harmful chemicals in the air.

At the Air Cleaner Store™, we believe that the best technology provides maximum benefit with minimum inconvenience. This is why we carry Austin Air – the best air cleaner on the market – simple to use, cost-effective and with advanced filtering technology.

Four Stages of CLEAN: The HealthMate

Austin Air cleaners provide four layers of mechanical and intermolecular filtration.

STAGE 1Large particle pre-filter. Removes particles easily seen by the naked eye (e.g. Dust, hair and pet dander)

STAGE 2 Medium particle pre-filter. Removes small to medium size particles (e.g. Molds, spores and pollen)

STAGE 3Activated Carbon and Zeolite Filter. Over 780 cubic inches of activated carbon and zeolite. Removes chemicals, gases and odors.  When toxic chemicals come in contact with activated carbon, the airborne toxins are sequestered in the millions of pores and pockets on the surface of activated carbon. Our units feature 15 lbs. of activated carbon.

Zeolites are commercial adsorbents. Together with the activated carbon, they remove over 3,000 chemicals, gases and odors from the air.

technology

STAGE 4 – Certified True Medical Grade HEPA (High-Efficiency Particulate Air) Filter.  60 sq. ft. of true medical grade HEPA which is pleated to increase efficiency. Removes 99.97% of all particles larger than 0.3 microns and 95% of all particles larger than 0.1 microns. COVID 19 and other viruses, bacteria and microorganisms are significantly larger than 0.15 microns, making the HEPA filtering method a great choice for helping to contain airborne infectious pathogens.

HEPA technology was originally invented to filter atomic matter in nuclear environments. The Atomic Energy Commission set the standards for HEPA media to remove 99.97% of all particles larger than 0.3 microns. A micron is 1/25,000 of an inch. In a recent study by NASA, HEPA was found to be effective in filtering nanoparticles to .015 microns.

All Austin Air standard air cleaners including HealthMate, HealthMate Plus and Bedroom Machine use 60 sq. ft. of true medical grade HEPA materials.  Protect your patients, staff and do your lungs a favor: Breathe easier!

A FIFTH Stage of Clean: The HealthMate Plus

The HealthMate Plus adds potassium iodide, a chemisorber, to the activated carbon and zeolite filter. This enhances the breakdown of large  molecules (VOC’s) into smaller ones so they are more easily adsorbed.

This is important in dental offices where volatile chemicals, such as office sterilants and disinfectants, including glutaraldehyde; glutaraldehyde with phenol, (OPA); quatemary ammonium chloride; oxidizers (bleach); formaldehyde and phenolics, need to be cleared from the air.

The potassium iodide in the HealthMate Plus is also a powerful adjunct in the removal of mercury from the air. While not all dentists use mercury amalgam for fillings today, revisions of old amalgam fillings are common.

A SIXTH Stage of Clean: The Bedroom Machine

The Bedroom Machine’s unique five state filter has two technologically advanced carbon filters to absorb toxic chemicals, odors, gases and tobacco smoke and remove them from the air.

A.  Features 15 pounds of Activated  Carbon with Zeolite. This is the same Activated Charcoal found in the HealthMate.
B.    Utilizes High Efficiency Gas Arrestance (HEGA), a second carbon filter. Developed by the British military. HEGA is a special woven activated carbon cloth for gas and odor absorption that provides an extremely large surface area for adsorption of chemicals, gases, viruses and bacteria. This is the same carbon cloth filter found in the Allergy Machine.

The Bedroom Machine was used in clinical trials at the University of John Hopkins to reduce kitchen Nitrogen Dioxide levels in the homes of local residents. NO2 levels in the kitchen dropped by 23%.

CFM

Cubic feet per minute (CFM) is the measurement of how much air passes through the unit in one minute. Often, manufacturers, distributors and customers confuse an air cleaners fan rating with the actual CFM rate. While an Austin Air standard has a fan rating of 400 CFM, this is only a measure of how much air the unit moves without the filter. The filter impedes the air flow and reduces the actual volume of air that is moved through the machine. The Austin Air standard size units have an actual rating of 250 CFM on the highest setting. The Austin Air junior size units have an actual rating of 125 CFM on the high setting.

ACH

Air changes per hour (ACH) describes the number of air exchanges a unit can make for a particular room in an hour with the highest fan speed. First, multiply the units cubic feet per minute (CFM) by 60 to learn the cubic feet per hour (CFH). Our standard units have a CFM of 250 x 60 = 15,000 CFH. Then, divide 15,000 by the cubic feet in the room to learn the ACH. A ten by ten operatory or office with eight-foot ceilings has and ACH of 18.75 with an Austin Air Standard. (10’ x 10’ x 8’ > 18.75 ACH @ 250 CFM) That’s almost one air exchange every three minutes.

UV, Ionization, Plasma, Ozone

Many “air purifiers” feature UV, ionization and plasma technology that produce ozone, a known lung irritant.  Ozone has been shown to increase the incidence of allergies, asthma, emphysema and bronchitis according to the American Lung Association.  Relatively low amounts can cause chest pain, coughing, shortness of breath and throat irritation. Additionally, the EPA questions both the safety and effectiveness of products which produce ozone. These units  can not be sold in the state of California as they are considered hazardous to your health. Austin Air cleaners do not produce ozone.

Shell

Austin Air air cleaners  have a 23 gauge steel housing with a 360° air intake on four sides. This shell has a baked-on powder coat finish that is  durable, washable and does not out-gas. This stand alone unit comes with castors.

Motor and Fan

The Austin Air Standard motor is a thermally protected Permanent Split Capacitor (PSC) motor.  Max. HP: 1/11.5,  rated for continuous high speed, long life duty.  With shock absorbing motor mounts, a CSA Power Rating of 120 VAC 60 Hz, Max. Watt: 147, Max. Amp: 1.2 and a three-speed control and centrifugal fan. CSA C-US approved for use in Canada and USA.

The Austin Air Junior motor is a thermally protected Shade Pole motor. Max. HP: 1/54, rated for continuous high speed, long life duty.  With shock absorbing motor mounts, a CSA Power Rating of 120 VAC 60 Hz, Max. Watt: 82, Max. Amp: 1.2 and a three-speed control and centrifugal fan. CSA C-US approved for use in Canada and USA.
